SEPTEMBER EVENTS AT THE CALVERT MARINE MUSEUM
SOLOMONS, MD – August 31, 2020 – The Calvert Marine Museum (CMM) continues to bring back the experiences that guests know and love. The Cove Point Lighthouse Grounds and Visitor Center are now open to the public on Wednesdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Also returning to the museum are one-hour cruises on the historic bugeye, Wm. B. Tennison, available Thursday and Friday afternoons at 2 p.m. Following the guidance of the CDC and State of Maryland, all guests ages five and older must wear a mask during their visit. The museum continues to operate at a limited capacity with a timed entry system. Before visiting CMM, please make a reservation on our website: calvertmarinemuseum.com.
Thursday, September 3 & September 10 – Sea Squirts
This program is designed to invite adults and children 18 months to 3 years to discover the museum together through music, stories, and special activities. Join us for story time and a take away craft, available while supplies last. Sessions are 15-20 minutes. Capacity limited to 10 people per session. This month’s theme is Going Buggy. Saturday, September 12 –Fossil Club Meeting & Public Lecture
2 p.m. & 2:30 p.m. Quarterly meeting of the CMM Fossil Club at 2 p.m., followed by a public lecture at 2:30 p.m. Dr. Matt Carrano of the Smithsonian Institution will discuss dinosaurs and the Deep Time Exhibit from the National Museum of Natural History’s David H. Saturday, September 12 & Sunday, September 20 – Dee of St. Mary’s Public Sail
2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Sail on the Dee of St. Mary’s, leaving from the museum dock. Fee is $25 for ages 13 and up, $15 for children 5 – 12. No children under 5 please. Seating is limited, as all cruises will be operating at a limited capacity to allow for social distancing. Preregistration is required by noon on the Friday before each cruise by visiting bit.ly/DeeOfStMarysCruises.
Thursday, September 17 & September 24 – Little Minnows
For preschoolers ages 3 – 5, with an adult. This program focuses on one of the museum’s three themes. Join us for story time and a take away craft, available while supplies last. Sessions are 15-20 minutes. Capacity limited to 10 people per session. This month’s theme is Marsh Detective. Sunday, September 20 – CMM Members Save 20%
10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Museum members enjoy a 20% discount in the Museum Store all day, today, and on the 20th of every month.
Saturday, September 26 – Toy Boat Building
Toy boat building, sponsored by the Patuxent Small Craft Guild, has been part of the museum for over 30 years and is offered on the fourth Saturday of every month. Toy boats will be available as a carry-out craft during each open session at the museum. Pre-packaged kits will be available for pick up in the Harms Gallery, while supplies last. A $2 donation per boat is requested. Museum admission is required. This activity is ideal for ages 5 and up.
Explore how the prehistoric past, natural environments, and maritime heritage come to life and tell a unique story of the Chesapeake Bay. The Calvert Marine Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with limited capacity and a new timed entry system. Admission is $9 for adults; $7 for seniors, military with valid I.D, AAA and AARP members; $4 for children ages 5 - 12; children under 5 and museum members are admitted free.
