FEBRUARY EVENTS AT THE CALVERT MARINE MUSEUM

Beat the winter blues and visit the Calvert Marine Museum in February. Programs and activities are planned for all ages. Visit the website at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com for a complete listing of events.

Tuesday, February 6 and Thursday, February 8 – Sea Squirts

10 – 10:30 a.m.Rockin' Reptiles! FREE drop-in program for children 18 month to 3 years and their caregivers. Space is limited; if the session is full, another program will be offered at 11 a.m.

Friday, February 9 – Sunday, February 11 – Jewelry Trunk Show

11 a.m. - 4 p.m. The Museum Store presents an exquisite selection of jewelry that highlights both new artists and perennial favorites. Get a free box of sea salt caramels with a $50 or more jewelry purchase. Returning this year is Black Point Chocolatier, on hand with delectable handcrafted chocolates and confections to sample and purchase.

Wednesday, February 14 – Sea Squirts

10 – 10:30 a.m.Rockin' Reptiles! FREE drop-in program for children 18 month to 3 years and their caregivers. Space is limited; if the session is full, another program will be offered at 11 a.m.

Friday, February 16 – Ken & Brad Kolodner Quartet

7 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. The Maritime Performance Series presents the Ken & Brad Kolodner Quartet performing music of American Old-Time tradition. See Ken Kolodner on hammer dulcimer and fiddle, Brad Kolodner on clawhammer banjo, Rachel Eddy with soulful singing and multi-instrumental talents, and Ralph Gordon on the bass and cello. Doors open at 6 p.m. with beer and wine available for sale. Tickets are $15 online, $20 at the door and available at www.bit.ly//MaritimeConcerts.

Monday, February 19 – The Great Backyard Bird Count

10 a.m. – 5 p.m. In just a few weeks, many birds will begin their preparations for springtime. Join us to count local birds along with the rest of the nation; results are reported to Cornell University. Check out a pair of binoculars from the Discovery Room to use in the Marsh Walk, where you may see the first signs of our feathered friends as they return to the Chesapeake. FREE with museum admission. Visit the Museum Store to purchase your bird identification guide.

Saturday, February 17 – Lore Oyster House Tours

11 a.m. – 12 noon and 1 – 2 p.m. Tours will highlight African American experiences at National Historic Landmark, J.C. Lore & Sons Oyster House. *The J.C. Lore & Sons Oyster House is an off-site exhibit, located at 14430 Solomons Island Road, Solomons, MD.

Tuesday, February 20 – Museum Members Save 20%

10 – 11 a.m. Museum members are invited for coffee and donuts. Members enjoy a 20% discount in the Museum Store all day today and on the 20th of every month!

Thursday, February 22 – Little Minnows

10 – 11 a.m. Fascinating Fish. For children ages 3 to 5 years old and their caregivers. Fee is $5, CMM members are FREE.

Thursday, February 22 – Gills Club

5:30 – 7 p.m. FREE program designed for girl’s ages 7 – 12 interested in learning more about sharks. Gills Club is a STEM-focused program from the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors, military with valid I.D. and AAA members, and $4.00 for children ages 5 - 12; children under 5 and museum members are always admitted free.
