Junior Docents

The application period for 2023 is now closed.

Docents are a very important part of the Calvert Marine Museum, working in all of the gallery spaces acting as guides for the general public.  At the Marine Museum, Junior Docents focus on presenting information in the form of artifact carts, as well as educating visitors about the animals in the Discovery Room or Skates and Rays.

The Junior Docent program is a two-year commitment for those interested in visitor interactions and are rising 8th and 9th graders (between the ages of 13-15). The chosen candidates are invited to attend the Junior Docent Training week during which the participants are shown everything to ensure they are properly prepared to represent the museum.

To be considered for the program, an applicationparent/guardian permission form and a recommendation form must be completed. The recommendation form can be completed by any non-relative adult who can speak to the applicant's suitability for the program (a teacher, coach, scout leader, etc.).  The application materials will go live on January 2nd, 2023 and the application period ends on April 1, 2023.   After the application period ends, all application materials are reviewed and interviews with selected candidates will be scheduled. All forms must be submitted to be considered for the program.

Junior Docent Training week will be June 19 - June 23, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and is a requirement for participation in the program.
