What is a Junior Docent?

  • Junior Docents are a very important part of the Calvert Marine Museum. Working in all the gallery spaces, they help the public understand the museum collections in a deeper way. 
  • Junior Docents also get to help museum staff with educational programs and special events.
  • The Junior Docents are rising 8th and 9th graders (ages 13-15 years old) who can make a two-year volunteer commitment to help in the museum 

How Do I Become a Jr. Docent?

  • Attend Junior Docent Information Night meeting in person or via Zoom
    • a recording is available by request
  • Fill out an application - found HERE
  • Have a parent/guardian fill out the parent/guardian form - found HERE
  • Ask a non-relative adult, we recommend a favorite teacher, to fill out a recommendation form - found HERE
  • Interview with a panel of museum staff
  • Successfully complete the training week

What are Important Dates I Need to Know to be a Jr. Docent?

  • February 8th at 5:30 pm - All interested are encouraged to attend the interest meeting (offered both in person and via Zoom)
  • April 1st – The application period closes
  • April 5th – email notifications to those applicants chosen for interviews
  • April 13th – Applicant interviews (to be scheduled)
  • April 19th – Email notification of status
  • June 17th – 21st– Junior Docent Training Week
